Our Felicity: 6 Months

Happy Half Birthday Baby Girl! Six months ago we didn't have chewed up Birthday and playing cards, baby roars, gummy smiles, a toy around every corner, an automatic alarm clock, the words Woozle, Doozle, or Sasscratchewan in our vocabulary...We had no idea what was coming, and we never could have imagined this cute, funny but serious, lovely little Miss Fliss. She is truly the girl of our dreams, and we still find ourselves in disbelief that she's actually ours.
This month Felicity has definitely shown she has a mind of her own. She is ReAcHiNg for everything but mostly the one thing in front of her that she's not supposed to have! Funny how she seems to gravitate for anything but her toys. Her absolute favorite things to reach for right now are anything paper, tupperware, cell phones and Mommy.
The first time she reached for me it had been one of those days where nothing seemed to please the little darling. That night when Dan was changing her diaper she was crying so I went back to help. She arched her little back on the changing table and reached back with both hands coming right at me. Her sad little face and whimpers melted my heart. I will never forget it. I've never experienced anything quite like it, and it definitely ranks high on the top moments of my life. Seriously.
She is getting SO big. With April came Felicity's first time in the church nursery (you know it's bad when you go to get your baby and they're being paced outside the nursery...not crying, but pacing no less ;) KUDOS to the dedicated, loving nursery workers at BC ), first attempts at sitting up on her own, consistent sleep at night, full blown giggling, the return of her voice (instead of just moaning :) my favorite is Aye, yi, yi, yi, yi!), stranger danger and way less fussy time in the evening (woo-hoo).

April Anecdotes:

  • Felicity took her first trip to her Great Grandpa Wayne and Grandma Betty's. Everyone likes to roast me because I have a history of sleeping A LOT when I go there. I guess I've just always found it to be peaceful. In fact, this time my cousin said, "Hey this is the longest I've ever seen you awake at Grandma's." Ha, ha! Oh how having a baby changes everything :) You can only imagine how pleased I was to find that Felicity had the best sleep of her little life at Grandma's. More than once I had to check if she was breathing. I guess she's just following in her mother's footsteps...or there's something in the water there!
  • Paper Monster! This girl loves anything paper or paper producty. She practically chewed off the bunny ears on her first Easter card from Grandma Kathy. It was also the catalyst for her first FiT. The girl seriously cried when we took it away and stopped when we gave it back. Dan has lost a good portion of a deck of cards, and I find myself tearing off corners of every piece of paper in her presence to keep her from paper cuts. It would seem she delights in the sound, texture, and even taste of paper. One friend suggested she might be trying to tell us she needs more fiber in her diet as Felicity bit off a big chunk of the church bulletin. ;)
  •  Blow Out! This month Fliss set the record for her biggest on record yet. We were visiting Grandma Val, Grandpa Darrel, and other Baileys. I was holding her and all of a sudden I could tell something was going on if you know what I mean. I looked at her Uncle Ben and said, "I think she's making something special. I'll wait a few minutes to make sure she doesn't want to make it extra special." Oh man did she ever make it extra special. When I went to change her, I found that she was covered and so was I. Grandma Val took her onesie to the toilet to try to flush off the damage. She was showing me how it's done when WOOSH the onesie went straight down the toilet! As you can imagine we were dying with laughter!

I Love You Truly...

This summer Dan and I headed to St. Louis to celebrate my grandparent's 65th wedding anniversary with the whole family.

We surprised Grandma Betty and Grandpa Wayne by singing a song that was sung at their wedding years ago. It goes like this...

I love you truly. Truly, dear....

Life with its sorrows, life with its tears.

Fades into dreams when I feel you are near...

For I love you truly. Truly, dear...
This Valentine's Day I'm so grateful for my husband who loves me and my grandparents enough to wear my grandpa's old, wool, supper skinny uniform in 100 degree weather :)

I am grateful for the beautiful example of love shown to me by my grandparents these 28 years.

I am grateful for the love of Jesus Christ that allows me to truly love each day.

Happy Valentine's Day dear friends. May your hearts overflow with love this day and always...

A Christmas Tour

Dear Grandma,

I took these photos for you. Dad said you would like to see some decorations...Plus, they are one of my favorite parts of Christmas at dad's house. Always so BeAutIfuL...

For anyone who is not my grandma, I hope you enjoy too.

This is my favorite tree with the top hat :)

Here is Molly sitting in her chair. She's really not supposed to be there, but she just fits so well I couldn't bear to reprimand her...

The dining room...

The living room or family room (I never know which name is correct) and Isabelle...

The family room/living room...I love the chair legs. So fun. :)

And the game room/extra sleeping space when the house is full (hence the mattress)...

One of my favorites, but it doesn't stand a chance of being in anything but a state of complete ChAoS. You can imagine why...

And that's all I've got. Hope you enjoyed the tour Grandma (and anyone else who made it this far).

Love,
Katie

These are my People...

So there's this country song that goes something like, "These are my people, this is where I come from...it ain't always PrEtTy, but it's ReaL....wouldn't have it any other way"...

I think we can all relate to the fact that when FaMiLy gets together, BiZzArE things happen...

I recently had the pleasure of visiting some of my family, and of course my camera was working overtime! To keep it InTeReStiNg...or at least EnTerTaInInG for me...I've decided to share the photos and stories that aren't the PrEttieSt of the bunch and may seem a bit UnConVeNtiOnAl , but they fill me with TeNdeRnEsS for my family and GrAtItuDe that ThEsE are My PeOpLe...

#1 Photo Op. in a hotel lobby whose name will remain anonymous...

These are my people invading a hotel lobby full of plush chairs and plenty of space for our big group...what the picture doesn't tell you is...no one in my family was actually staying at said hotel! Of course I made this known to everyone as they joined our party. They would see the drinks and say "at least we're buying drinks"...I would then point to SoMeOnE's purse...not naming any names here...and they would laugh as they glimpsed the wine bottle inside...ThEsE are my PeOpLe...
#2 The Topsy Turvy

This is an upside down tomato plant. If you're like Dan and me, you've seen commercials for these things and guffawed and thought, "who buys these things"?! You can imagine my AsTonIsHmEnT to find this dying tomato experiment in my Grandparents' backyard...You can also imagine the entertainment I found in watching this:
It took three men from my family to move this baby to a place where it could get more sun...as they're doing this, of course I'm wondering "do you ReALly think that what an UpSiDe DowN tomato plant needs is sun?" I sincerely hope the BeSt for Grandpa's tomato plant, but if nothing else, it was worth a GoOd LaUgH...

#3 My People love DeSseRt...we come by it naturally...

Grandpa loves when everyone comes to visit because he gets some extra SwEeTs...This picture epitomizes my grandma and grandpa...I love them to pieces!

#4 Sometimes I like to HaRaSs my people...actually I'm known for it. A few examples:

Forcing my mom and grandma to HuMoR me by taking this picture...one day they'll thank me for it...pretty darn CuTe if you ask me!

Playing paparazzi to my Uncle Dave as he tries to enjoy his meal...My people really AdOrE me even though they sometimes tell me to "Get outta here"...you can clearly see the LoVe in his eyes...

#5 My People also enjoy HaRaSsiNg me... Oh cousin Deirek...I know you love me so...you just cant' stay away from me...

Thank you cousin Colby for stealing my camera and taking completely PoIntLesS and somewhat DiStuRbiNg pictures of food and such...
I know the ArTisTiC GeNiUs of the above macaroni and cheese shot is a lot to handle so I will spare anyone who has made it this far in this post the other masterpieces from the day...

If you're still with me on this post, don't worry, I'm done with silly AnEcdOteS from my most recent visit...but I'd like to end by sharing my FaVoRitE thing about my people... My people LoVe and LaUgH a lot...ThEsE are my PeOpLe...and I LoVe 'em for it!
